Meaning of name:
Lambertia, after Aylmer Bourke Lambert (1761–1842), a British botanist and one of the first fellows of the Linnean Society, the world’s oldest and premier biological society devoted to the documentation of the world’s flora and fauna
formosa is from Latin: formosus, shapely, beautiful, handsome. A reference to the flowers
The Mountain Devil is named for the devil’s head shape of the developing fruit. There are eleven species in the genus Lambertia, all of which are native to Australia. Lambertia formosa however is the only one found on the east coast, with the others found in southwest Western Australia.
Lambertia formosa is a bird attracting spreading shrub that can reach 2m high (6.5 feet). It flowers mainly in the spring and early summer.
